Double ex officio prosecutorial intervention at the highest level, by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court for the incident of animal abuse in Lesvos, when in races with donkeys, underage riders brutally beat and abused them.

The intervention concerns the attribution of criminal responsibilities both for the minors who participated in the abominable event, as well as against their parents who had not taken measures to take care of their children and avoid their brutal behavior at the expense of helpless animals.

The Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Anastasia Masoura, who supervises and coordinates the work of the prosecution authorities in matters of animal protection, sent a written order to the Prosecutor of the First Instance of Mytilene for an in-depth investigation into the unacceptable incident, while at the same time she brought relevant publications to the attention of the local Prosecutor’s Office and audiovisual material.

The investigation was ordered as a matter of urgency in order to investigate misdemeanor and felony counts of animal abuse and torture for the minors involved in the cruelty to the donkeys, as well as neglect of minors at the expense of their parents.
