More buses they will circulate on its streets Thessaloniki from the end of next week, while at the end of September the OASTH will be reinforced with additional vehicles, which are expected to be released in the coming months. The above was announced by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Christos Staikourasin his statements after the working meeting that took place, in the morning, at the headquarters of the Organization, in Thessaloniki.

The subject of today’s working meeting was the future of the OASTH, “but mainly how in the short term his work will be strengthened on the streets of Thessaloniki”as the minister clarified, adding: “We have to decide together with the relevant bodies and the people of Thessaloniki what transport project we want the next day in Thessaloniki and we have already set ourselves a deadline for this, the end of 2023. Our goal is to respond with a holistic and permanent way regarding the next day in the Organization”.

Regarding the increase in vehicles on the city’s roads, Mr. Staikouras noted: “From tomorrow there will be some additional drivers. From next week, there will be even more drivers from internal movements. This means that essentially from the end of next week there will be some additional buses on the streets of the city.” He mentioned that “two more interventions are on the way in collaboration with the workers, so that we can increase the fleet even more”.

Asked if hiring was being considered, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport replied: “For a short period of time we are trying to exhaust this possibility and we will exhaust it, despite the fact that the information we have from other transport providers – for example KTEL – is that in such interventions that they tried to make to find drivers, they did not there was the interest they expected.”

According to secure information, at today’s working meeting the possibility of hiring through a programmatic agreement with OSETH was considered, so as to overcome the legal issue arising from the fact that OSETH has been in a special liquidation regime since 2017. On this matter , the minister emphasized that “the issue of the special liquidation of the OASTH is a problem that we cannot hide under the carpet, nor can we postpone it to the future”.

Regarding the electric buses, Mr. Staikouras noted that the contract for the supply of 250 was submitted to the Parliament, of which 110 are planned to join the OASTH fleet. “These 110 electric buses are an important asset for the city, but how they will operate, what needs they will cover and what fleet they will replace, is something that will be seen by OATH and all transport operators OSETH, KTEL, OATH and employees” he said characteristically.

Today’s working meeting was attended by the Deputy Ministers of Infrastructure and Transport Christina Alexopoulou and Nikos Tachiaos, the Secretary General of Transport Giannis Xifaras, the president and managing director of OATH Costas Tagiris, the head of the board of directors of the Thessaloniki Transport Project Organization and the managing director of OSETH, Ioannis Kalogeroudis and Yiannis Toskas respectively, the president of KTEL Thessaloniki Stefanos Tsolis, the president of the union of workers of OASTH Yiannis Dimkas, as well as officials and representatives of the workers in the organization.
