Dozens of women during this period are called to testify as part of the preliminary investigation which is carried out by the Organized Crime Department of Crete following a relevant order from the competent Prosecutor and concerns the highly acclaimed case of the private clinic in Chania with the “industrialization” of births.

The preliminary which is already “running” has a goal to investigate the part of the case concerning virtual egg retrievals and embryo transfers. On the day of the major police operation in the premises of the …famous private center of Chania, important findings were allegedly found, among other things, with lists of names that were not registered in the official records.

The information states that the cases being checked concern women who had applied to the private clinic for the egg retrieval and embryo transfer procedures. And while they were normally subjected to intoxication in order to perform the necessary medical procedures, in reality it was all fake. In other words, it is being investigated whether they were deceived in this cruelly unethical way.

EL.AS examines the files of these cases one by one. The women who will be called to testify are more than 200 and come from various regions of Crete.

The whole case is unprecedented for Greek time data, the Police, the Judiciary, and even for the lawyers. It is at the same time complex and needs to be decoded and divided into sections depending on the field.

In the area of virtual ovulation and embryo transfers, as mentioned above, preliminary research is underway.

In the second year, the Organized Crime Department of Crete will be called, with the assistance of special experts, to check the cryopreservation part as well. In other words, the biological material that is already stored in special machines at the clinic facilities will be investigated.

It is assured, because there is obvious concern from interested parties, that the material that is already in the clinic’s facilities has been fully secured, with the personal interest of the Minister of Health, Mr. Michalis Chrysochoidis, but also of the Independent Authority. Two autopsies have already been carried out in the area by the relevant levels, there is an uninterrupted supply of nitrogen for the operation of the cryopreservation machines and sufficient scientific staff. All biological material in the clinic, exactly as it was, has been fully insured, since the very first day of the police raid.

With regard to surrogate mothers, it is emphasized that for those couples who legally ran the maternity program and there is genetic identification, there is absolutely no issue with receiving the newborns after their birth at the Chania hospital.

If now an issue arises and for example a different DNA is found, even half, then legally it should be to follow another procedure, that of underwriting.
