The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Policy proceeded with the implementation of an integrated plan for the accommodation of citizens in need due to the fires of August 2023, but also for housing, within the framework of state aid, citizens whose homes were affected by the fires Protection, in a framework of cooperation with all the authorities.

In particular, as the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection emphasizes in its announcement, from the first moment it is activated by the general secretariat of Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid. the scheme of subsidizing the temporary housing of citizens whose first residence was affected by the fires. In particular, for the temporary housing of those affected by the fires of August 2023, immediately after the issuance of the Joint Ministerial Decision on the delimitation of the affected area and the granting of housing assistance, a Joint Ministerial Decision will be issued on the granting of a temporary housing subsidy, in the form of a subsidy rent or cohabitation, to those whose main and permanent residence suffered damage from the fire and was characterized, by the ranks of the general directorate for the restoration of the effects of natural disasters, as temporarily – until repair – unsuitable for use (“yellow”) or dangerous for use (“red”).

It is noted that the competent levels have already proceeded with the process of autopsies and recording the damages, resulting in the municipalities of Marathon, Alexandroupoli, Iasmos, Nestos, Acharnon, Phylis and Aspropyrgos, with the temporary number of damage records in buildings (residences, business premises, warehouses, stables, etc) has so far risen to 325, of which (a) 118 are characterized as dangerous for use (“red”), (b) 143 are characterized as temporarily – until repaired – unsuitable for use (“yellow ») and (c) 64 are classified as suitable for use with minor repairs (“green”). These are autopsies and records about which the concerned citizens have been informed.

The temporary housing subsidy is granted to the beneficiaries depending on the family members who lived in the affected residence, it will range from 300 to 500 euros per month and will be given for up to 2 years to the owners and for 6 months to the tenants. Interested citizens, within 3 months from the issuance of the relevant decision, can submit an application to the competent department of the General Secretariat for Disaster Recovery and State Aid for the grant of the subsidy, choosing either the rent subsidy or the cohabitation subsidy (this version concerns the cases where the beneficiary is accommodated in the residence of a relative or friend for the above periods of time).

Finally, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection notes that the start date of the subsidy is defined as either the start date of the cohabitation, or the start date of the lease that is indicated in the Proof of Submission of the Property Lease Information Statement of the Independent Public Revenue Authority and concerns the lease of the new residence.
