“I hope your lesson is learned, and we don’t see you here again.” With these words and “exhausting” – as the president of the court said – “our leniency”, the Independent Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki acquitted the three PAOK supporters who had been arrested at the Super League premiere against Asteras Tripoli, because when they entered the court of Toumba they had a knife (the two) and a torch (the third).

The checks were carried out by the Police outside the gates of the stadium, in accordance with the government measure that had been decided a few days earlier, after the murder of AEK fan Michalis Katsouris, in New Philadelphia.

Among them was one 57 year old teacher (gymnast), in whose purse a knife was found. He had also been arrested for possession of a knife 34 years oldwhile one 20 year old carried on it a naval torch.

He was accused of violating the Sports Law – which, in the event of a conviction, does not provide for the commutation or suspension of the imposed sentence – and, as the case may be, for violating the Weapons and Fireworks Law.

In their apologies, the three defendants spoke of naivety and negligence on their part, while they apologized.

“I don’t go to the stadium, but this time I did the favor of my minor son who begged me to experience the atmosphere,” said the teacher, who apologized for forgetting the knife in his purse after the holidays. “I’m not that kind of person,” he added.

The apology of the 34-year-old, who mentioned that he uses the knife in the kitchen of his house, moved along the same wavelength. “There was no way I was going to hurt anyone,” he added.

For his part, the 20-year-old who owned a torch, noted that he bought it from a store with the intention of lighting it when his team would score a goal. “I bought him legally, it didn’t cross my mind that it is forbidden to have him in the stadium,” were his words in the apology.

The district attorney proposed the acquittal of the first and the conviction of the other two, but in the end the judges acquitted all three.
