The authorities proceeded with the arrest of a 19-year-old foreigner who is said to be the trafficker of the immigrants who were spotted on the beaches between Limniona and Almyrichi in the municipality of Karystos in Evia yesterday.

The arrested person is accused of violating the provisions of article 30 of Law 4251/2014 (Obligations of carriers).

According to exclusive information of evima.gr, the immigrants were apparently abandoned there by a trafficker.

The 19-year-old was then located in the wider area.

The Maritime Border Security and Protection Directorate, in collaboration with the Kymi Port Authority, analyzes and processes in depth all the evidence that has emerged and investigates the possible participation of those arrested in other cases, as well as their collaboration with members of organized circles with the same or similar criminal activities.

It is recalled that these are 16 immigrants, according to their statement Iraqis who claim that they came from the shores of Turkey in a speedboat, which, after disembarking, left on the open sea.

As it became known, the 8 are in the hands of the AT Karystos police officers, who were informed about the incident, while the rest are scattered in the area of ​​Mesohoria.

All of them are expected to be taken to the Kymi Port Authority, in order to be registered and to determine if they have documents.

Let us remind you that yesterday the port authorities in Evia identified and rescued 28 migrants on the beach of Murteri in Koskina on Wednesday (30/8).

There were allegedly seven children among them, one of whom was facing a health problem.

According to information from the website evima.gr, the port police rushed to the scene and took them to the port authority of Kymi for preliminary questioning and then they were taken to special structures by the police.
