Beaufort will be quite, and will increase on Sunday – All air and ground forces of the Fire Department on alert
Sources of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection mean “bell ringing” to citizens for the last dangerous weekend of the summer, with the Fire Service being put on ‘alert’.
Although since yesterday we entered autumn, Greece continues to go through the most difficult, in terms of climatic conditions, summer. The weekend will be just as dangerous for wildfires due to the extremely strong winds that will blow especially in Attica, Boeotia, Evia, Evros and the islands of the Northern Aegean, it is emphasized.
The Beauforts will be enough, and they will increase on Sunday and for this on the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued for tomorrow, Saturday, September 2, by Civil Protection, these areas will be in risk category 4 (orange).
In particular, according to the General Secretariat of Civil Protection, a very high risk of fire (category 4) is foreseen in four regions:
• Region of Attica
• Region of Central Greece (PE Boeotia, PE Evia including the island of Skyros)
• Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Evros Region)
• North Aegean Region (Lesvos Region, Chios Region, Samos Region, Ikaria Region)
For this reason, all air and ground forces of the Fire Department will be outside, in a state of general alert throughout the country, in order to immediately deal with any fire outbreaks, which due to the extreme weather conditions can very quickly take on dangerous dimensions. At the same time, along with the battle on the fire fronts, aerial surveillance patrols and patrols by fire, police and military forces continue.
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) has informed the competent state agencies involved in the official service, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of the above areas, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to immediately deal with any fire incidents.
At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection advises citizens to be especially careful and avoid outdoor activities that can inadvertently cause a fire, such as burning dry grass and twigs or cleaning residues, using machinery that causes sparks such as circular saws, welding equipment, using outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lighted cigarettes , etc.
Also, it is reminded that during the fire protection season burning of fields is prohibited.
In the event of a fire, citizens are requested to immediately notify the Fire Service at the number 199.
