On the road Fire, Police and Army – patrols to prevent fires – Great danger on Sunday too
The entire state apparatus has been put on alert today Saturday and tomorrow, due to strong winds, which favor the occurrence of fires and make their extinguishing operations extremely difficult.
The Fire Department remains on general alert, as you can see from today’s photos from Parnitha. Firefighters, with the assistance of the men and women of the Armed Forces and the Hellenic Police, carry out patrols in forests and mountainous areas, while aerial surveillance patrols are also ongoing with the aim of early detection of fires and their immediate treatment, before they reach dangerous proportions.
According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map, the areas that will be tomorrow Sunday in the category of very high risk (category 4- orange) will be Attica, Boeotia, Evia, Laconia, Evros and the islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria, Psara, Skyros and Kythira.
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has informed the competent services, as well as the Regions and Municipalities of these areas, so that they are on heightened alert.
At the same time, he recommends that citizens be especially careful and not to take action in the open air that pose a risk of fire (burning dry grass and branches, use of machines that cause sparks such as circular saws and welding devices, use of outdoor grills, smoking bees, etc.). In the event of a fire, citizens are requested to notify the Fire Service immediately to call number 199.
