British tourists have taken to social media to plead for help. Many vacationers are stranded at the island’s airport
Hundreds of tourists have been stranded in Skiathos by the torrential rains that hit our country. As the “Daily Mail” reports in its report, many tourists remain inside the hotels, as the General Secretariat of Civil Protection warns them with its messages to stay inside.
25-year-old Victoria Jolley, who is trapped with her family in a hotel near the old town of the island of Skiathos, spoke to the “Daily Mail” about the horror she felt when she saw the flooded streets on the island, which had reached below her room . “Cars are drifting and roads have turned into rivers… I have never seen anything like this before. It’s scary. We are lucky to be in a room that is quite high from the road. The rooms on the ground floor have been flooded,” she said. He added: “We are also without water in our apartment. It is very painful to see the damage that has been caused.”
Other British tourists have taken to social media to plead for help after they have been left without power, and there are difficulties with communication and how to get food. Tourists who were left without electricity described the situation as “horribly scary”. The airline, according to the Daily Mail, said that due to the conditions there was no choice but to cancel all flights from Britain to Skiathos on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving hundreds of holidaymakers “trapped” inside the airport.

A British holidaymaker told the outlet that he and his wife were due to return to the UK at 8pm last night but their flight was canceled and they have not received much information from TUI about when they can expect a new flight . They are currently stranded in their hotel with no power and running out of food. Locals are also accommodated in the hotel, after the floods destroyed their houses, which were located near the beach.
“The food stocks in the hotel are running out. No more can be provided because the road next to our hotel has collapsed. The rain is heavy. Our hotel is now hosting families who lost their homes,” he said.

The floods come in the wake of major summer fires that have ravaged Greece in recent weeks, with some burning for more than two weeks and destroying vast areas of forest and farmland, reports the Daily Mail, among others.
