The KKE calls for the attribution of responsibility and the investigation of all the causes that led to the murder of 36-year-old Antonis in the port of Piraeus.

The announcement reads as follows:

“The incredible images of the 36-year-old’s murder in the ‘Blue Horizon’ catapult are shocking and gut-wrenching to anyone who wants to be called human.

The devaluation of human life that we experience almost every day in a society where the rotten values of individualism and profit reign, leads to such levels of obsolescence that someone throws a person into the sea and – while watching him drown in the shallows – gives order to start the ship normally, apparently to avoid any delay, since for the ferry companies “time is money”.

The Ministry of Commercial Shipping and all the competent Authorities must provide answers: Did the company comply with the protocol and the prescribed security measures during the departure of the ship? Was there a Coast Guard presence? How is it possible for the ship to sail and travel undisturbed for an hour before being ordered to return?

It is typical that what really happened was revealed by the passengers of the ship themselves, while the initial information from the Coast Guard essentially put the blame on the victim.

Beyond the given responsibilities of the crew members that must be attributed, the KKE demands that the crime and all the circumstances that caused it be investigated in depth, while expressing its sincere condolences to the family of the 36-year-old biowrestler from Crete who lost his life unjustly ».

At the same time collectives are organizing a protest rally tonight in memory of Antonis Karyotis. In their call they state:

“His name was Antonis Karyotis, he was 36 years old. He was murdered in the port of Piraeus, on the catapult of the “Blue Horizon”. Let us not get used to horror, inhumanity, brutality.

We demand justice.

We gather at Gate E3 in the port of Piraeus today, Wednesday 6/9/2023, at 7 p.m.

With a tear, with a flower with a candle… For Antonis”.
