Providing assistance to residents, pumping water, opening roads and other works which are required in 21 villages of Thessaly hit by the devastating storm Daniel was the first priority discussed at the morning meeting at the Operations Coordination Center in Larissa.

The crews of the Fire Brigade, the Army and the Region, in collaboration with the municipalities they provide assistance with water, food, fuel for generators or anything else requested by local communities and residents.

Of the 21 villages, there are 7 – Pineiad, Keramidi, Vlochos, Metamorfosi, Fennel, Korda and Koskinas which do not yet have road access as the water level has not receded yet.

Regarding the road access to the area of ​​the Larissa – Karditsa – Trikala triangle the situation is as follows: all the main road arteries are now open, except for the Trikala – Larissa axis, which at this time is accessible to the assistance vehicles and the machines that are carrying out work in order to be opened and given to traffic.

Also the E65 highway is open, while PATHE (National Highway Athens – Thessaloniki) remains closed. The main problem it is in PATHE the flood phenomenon and it is estimated that it will take at least 2 twenty-four hours to resolve the issue. A bigger problem exists in the railway connection between Athens and Thessaloniki as the damage to the railway network is enormous and the restoration will take much longer.

There is also a problem with Giannouli of Larissa, due to the water level of Pinios. The cleaning work of the remaining provincial and forest roads continues with every available means, while the Greek Police recommends to the drivers moving in the area low speeds and special attention and to follow the instructions of the authorities located at the points.

Particular importance is given to the issue of public healthwith the Ministry of Health inviting residents to follow the protection instructions that have already been issued. At noon at 16:00 there will be from Larissa the scheduled update from the Deputy Minister of Health Irini Agapidakis for health issues.

Until this morning more than 15,000 dead animals had been collected and cremated or buried according to sanitary regulations, 7,750 yesterday. The effort is now focused on the dead animals that have remained inside closed spaces (e.g. corrals), while it is noted that the absolute cooperation of the municipal authorities is required on this issue, as the need to complete this particular process is immediate. It is noted that all operations in the area are carried out with strict adherence to sanitary rules.

Regarding the state aid and the course of implementation of the support of the residents, the data will be updated by Mr. Triandopoulos during the 16:00 midday briefing. By morning, 1,180 final applications and 1,380 temporary applications had been submitted since yesterday afternoon when the platform opened, while it is pointed out that all those affected are entitled to state aid.

Regarding hosting issues those residents of the affected villages who are in need are directed to accommodation facilities of the municipalities or the Region and then move to hotels.

Alongside a large number of police forces have been deployed to guard the villagesin which residents have several assets outside their homes after the flood phenomenon.
