The major problems continue in the Thessalian plain with the competent authorities and residents trying to open the road arteries and remove the dead animals that are a source of infectious diseases, while in some villages the water level remains high.

It is estimated that more than 110,000 animals and birds drowned and the main concern now is their immediate cremation or burial.

A better image is presented on the road network as well as on the triangle Larissa, Karditsa, Trikala all main roads are open, except for the Trikala-Larissa axis. However, it remains closed for one more day the emortal road of Athens Thessaloniki, due to the flooding phenomena while there is also a problem with the railway network. The villages of the municipality of Killeler and the municipality of Agia also remain cut off as well the Tile of the Municipality of Farkadona.

ANIMALS

At the same time, crops and livestock units remain submerged in mud in villages of Karditsa and the riverside areas of Larissa resemble a swamp.

Problems continue to exist with the water which is inappropriate resulting in an increase in cases of gastroenteritis. In the last two days, 1396 citizens with various health problems came to the affected areas, of which 48 had gastroenteritis.

The new bed of Pinios

Among other things, the competent bodies are trying to deal with the new bed that has been created behind the workers’ residences of Giannouli, while residents of the flood-affected areas are taking their things out of their homes through the muddy water.

A void created in the area results in the water of Pinios flowing in two different directions. Water is directed towards the Worker’s Residences of Larisa, with the result that there is a risk even for their foundations. Huge efforts are being made to stop with dikes the continuous flow that still exists at the “zero” point.

“Lake Carla is swelling

An alarm has been raised and the level has risen dangerously for Lake Karla. Yesterday afternoon, the mayor of Killeler, Thanasis Nasiakopoulos, pointed out in a press conference he held that if the level rises another 60 cm, the lake will overflow and flood the village of Sotirio.

Lake Karla, as seen in the following satellite images from the last few days, has reached (perhaps exceeded) the area it historically had before its drying up in 1962.
