Innocent were judged by the Three-member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki three PAOK fans who were referred for a case with fan characteristics, last August in the area of Kalamaria.

It’s about a 21-year-old, a 26-year-old and a 27-year-old who were accused of violating the law on sports violence while, on a case-by-case basis, criminal proceedings were brought against them for violations of the laws on weapons and flares.

In addition, the court acquitted the two possessing torches but convicted the 26-year-old who was found in possession of an iron pick. He was sentenced to 5 months in prison, with a three-year suspension, while the mitigating factor for his previous legal life was recognized.

The court accepted the defense’s claim that the acts related to the Sports Law were not committed in the context of a sporting event and that the defendants did not target fans of an opposing team.

The police checks were carried out in the wake of the murder of 29-year-old AEK fan Michalis Katsouris in New Philadelphia, and ahead of PAOK’s match with Croatian Hajduk in Toumba. During the same controls, a total of 16 people were brought in, of which the three above were arrested.

They were detected at the beginning of August, in the context of checks to deal with and prevent illegal actions, which are related to upcoming sports events in the city of Thessaloniki. Police officers from the Crime Prevention and Suppression Division of the Sports Violence Sub-Directorate arrested them when at least one iron rod, two torches and full face hoods were found in the vehicles they were traveling in.
