Between broken plates and layers of eggplant, potatoes, béchamel and meat, São Paulo has seen the number of Greek restaurants growing.

In contemporary or traditional options, the European country’s cuisine is represented in the form of moussakas, fish and seafood, accompanied by yogurt and a considerable amount of olive oil.
In the Bom Retiro neighborhood are located the Acropolis and Prato Grego, which we could call more traditional.
The first is known for moussaka, lasagna made with eggplant, potatoes, ground meat and béchamel. The second one makes souvlaki, a pita bread sandwich, yogurt sauce, red onion, tomato and potato — and there’s also the breakdown of dishes.
The most contemporary are in the west and south, where you can try grilled squid with cooked broad beans, at Myk, or soutzoukakia, a meat dumpling in tomato sauce, topped with fried potatoes, feta and oregano, at Petros.
See some options below.
Acropolis
The simple address in Bom Retiro, which has existed since 1959, is one of the most traditional in the city. Order the moussaka in a meat or vegetarian version, both for R$44. There is also roast lamb
for R$67 or the octopus with vinaigrette (R$122 per portion).

Athens Restaurant
The restaurant is one of the popular spots for those who visit Augusta. There, you can eat Greek and Brazilian food. Among the Greek dishes of the day, Wednesday’s is psari plaki (R$62), roast cod with tomato and tarragon sauce, served with broccoli and fries. If you want to try other classics, the menu also has moussaka (R$49). The house has two more addresses on Rua Antônio Carlos, close to the first unit.

Among the most popular are the Myk salad, which includes green leaves, goat cheese, raw ham, figs, pine nuts and honey (R$78), and the roasted eggplant with wheat, raisins, yogurt and Greek olives, which costs R$54. The restaurant also has a second unit in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, which is located in Shopping Galleria.

In the east zone for just under a year, the house has been dedicated entirely to Greek cuisine. In the snacks section, what is most successful is the feta pop corn, breaded feta cheese accompanied by a honey and fleur de sel sauce that costs R$59. Among the main attractions is the grilled octopus with roasted punched potatoes, tapenade with olives and aioli that costs R$149. Another good choice is the grilled tuna, served over hummus, green beans, cherry tomatoes and olives, and sold for R$95.

Myk is celebrating ten years of business with new items added to the menu, such as the calamari con fajolada — grilled squid with cooked broad beans, bacon and salsa verde, served for R$ 120 and the pappardelle with chicken, mushrooms and thyme, which comes out for R$ 78. Some dishes, which are already considered classics, are still served. Petros Greek Taverna
Opened at the beginning of this year on a corner in Pinheiros, Petros has a decor typical of a Greek tavern, as the name suggests. The restaurant makes a point of saying that it only offers Greek recipes, without Mediterranean dishes. To start, order the Mezés (R$40), which comes with pita bread toasted on the grill with oregano and olive oil, Greek olives, tzatziki (yogurt with cucumber), melizanosaláta (roasted and smoked eggplant) and taramá (cured fish roe cream ). For mains, you can try everything from the classic moussaka (R$58) to the soutzoukakia (R$58), a meat dumpling in peeled tomato sauce, topped with fried potatoes, feta and oregano.
R. Virgílio de Carvalho, 137, Pinheiros, western region, Instagram @petrosgreeltaverna, the.: (11) 3898-5890. Tuesday to Saturday: from 12pm to 3pm and 7pm to 11pm, Sun: from 12pm to 5pm
Greek dish
Prato Grego, in Bom Retiro, started in 2016, at a Greek culture festival. It became a restaurant in 2020, during the pandemic, and became famous for its dish breakdown and souvlaki (R$33), which is a homemade pita bread sandwich with chicken, pork or falafel, homemade yogurt sauce, red onion, tomato and French fries. To sweeten it up, the tip is to try the kurabiê, sold for R$4.50 per unit, a buttery biscuit with almonds, along with a Greek coffee made in the brik — this costs R$15.
