The changes in the country’s criminal system were presented by the Minister of Justice
The plan of a comprehensive reform of the Justice, with a simultaneous solution to the immediate problems faced by the lawyers was presented by the Minister of Justice Giorgos Floridis at the Plenary Session of the Presidents of the Bar Associations of the country held in Chios, according to a statement from the Ministry of Justice.
In particular, the plan, “includes changes in the country’s Criminal system with interventions in the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Code of Civil Procedure, the Code of Procedure of the Council of the Territory, the Organization of Courts, the Codes of Lawyers and Notaries and the reform of the curriculum at the National School of Judges” while emphasizing “the directions for the new Judicial Charter, pending the proposals of the World Bank”.
At the same time, Mr. Floridis “announced the support of 3,500 new lawyers with 5,000 euros, through a voucher, the payment of an educational allowance of 560 euros to lawyers (30,000) to improve their digital skills, empower the judicial assistant and extend the internship program in courts and lawyers (6 months in courts and 12 months to lawyers) with the payment of a monthly fee of 950 euros, through ESPA, accepting a relevant program submitted by the Plenary”.
Also, the Minister of Justice presented “the development of the program for digital transition in Justice, which will create the conditions for major changes in the sector, as well as the extensive program of construction of new Courthouses that is underway”, stressing: “This reform effort must be free of backlogs of the past that create problems, such as the issue of delays in legal aid payments’.
He also announced “the full payment of all debts e.gare pending from this program and its final resolution with the creation of an electronic payment platform for the rapid clearance of warrants”.
Finally, Mr. Floridis also announced “the final resolution of the issue of article 187 of the Criminal Code as well as the attempt to fully electronic system of the use of mega stamps” and pointed out “the need for there to be consensus and cooperation between all the actors in the sector, i.e. judges, lawyers, court officials, notaries and bailiffs, for the changes that need to be made, from which everyone has to gain and especially the Greek people and the Greek economy”.
