by

The young whale, which had come out in the shallows of Alimos beach, ran aground again, on a rocky shore of Selinia Salamina beach, according to a post by the “Arion” rescue team.

The mammal is already receiving medical treatment again, while a team of divers from the UK is assisting the operation. The “Zifios” whale was led to the open sea yesterday, and was released to swim – according to the instructions of an AUTh professor. She had a small injury to her muzzle and had been offered first aid, while medical examinations had been performed.

“The Veterinary School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, together with ARION, was immediately notified by the local Port Authority about the re-grounding of the same Zifi on an island in the Saronic Gulf. The Athens Veterinary and Volunteer Rescue Team responds to the scene. “Please do not harass the mammal”, the post of the “Arion” group emphasizes.

Speaking to SKAI 100.3, Eugenia Skoutzou veterinarian and member of the research center for the rescue and treatment of cetaceans “Arion”, said that the young whale does not look as distressed and dehydrated as yesterday, it looks better, does not make circular movements and there are several chances to survive.

He stressed, however, that the whale has come out and volunteers, rescue teams and the Coast Guard have been mobilized to monitor its movements.
