The highest monthly rainfall ever recorded in Europe was recorded in Makrinitsa Pelion during the bad weather Daniel.
In particular, after the restoration of the transmission of the measurements of almost all the meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr in Thessaly, it was found that the meteorological station of Makrinitsa Pelion recorded a cumulative rainfall of 1,235 millimeters until September 20, 2023, a value that is the largest monthly rainfall amount ever recorded in Europe.
The previous record was held by Askifou Chania in February 2019, when it recorded a monthly rainfall of 1,225 millimeters.
As far as Greece is concerned, the highest rainfall levels of the last 15 years, in addition to the above, have been recorded in Zagora Pelion (1,155 mm in February 2018), Asi Gonia Chania (1,109 mm in February 2019) and Zagora Pelion (1,096 mm) in September 2023).
In addition, during the bad weather Daniel, the daily rainfall record of the meteo.gr/EAA network of weather stations, held by Makrinitsa since 2009, was broken in four meteorological stations (417 millimeters).
After the bad weather Daniel, the first place is occupied by the rainfall in Portaria Pelion (762 mm), followed by Zagora Pelion (760 mm), Makrinitsa (757 mm) and Volos (451 mm).
