Defense witness Ourania Dimakopoulou stated that the deaths of the three girls may be linked to a hereditary disease
The possibility that the deaths of the three daughters of the Daskalakis family are related to a hereditary disease was raised by the medical examiner Ourania Dimakopoulou, who was on the witness stand for the third day, in the trial of Roula Pispirigou for the death of Georgina.
The medical examiner, who has been proposed by the defendant’s defense, told the court that it is possible that the 34-year-old’s family has cardiomyopathy genes and therefore that the children’s deaths are linked to a hereditary disease.
As the witness said, the defendant has a 48 percent ejection fraction (heart failure) stressing that Georgina died with a 50 percent ejection fraction. He even mentioned that Roula Pispirigou has a reduced life expectancy.
“There is an MRI of the heart, according to which the accused has a 48% ejection fraction. Georgina died with a 50% ejection fraction. If in two years the defendant loses 20% of her heart’s functionality, in the next three years she herself may be dead. Right now the mother has the heart of a 70-year-old and is 34 years old.”
Mrs. Dimakopoulou being examined by the Support of the Category, reiterated her position that Georgina did not die from a ketamine overdose . He also emphasized that the controversial substance found in the child was administered at a time when the little girl was not with her mother. He also said that no death from ketamine has been recorded anywhere in the world, especially in children, while in cases of adults the death was due to a combination of substances and not just ketamine.
In response to a question from lawyer Dimitris Karambela, who together with Mr. Dimitris Georgakopoulos represent Manos Daskalakis, about the document from the Children’s Hospital in which it is stated that ketamine was not used in Tzorgina, Mrs. Dimakopoulou said that the disputed document “was given after the conclusion of Toxicology professor Nick Raikou. Just as the doctors said that the child had no problem, with the same logic they say that they have not given ketamine.”
Dimitris Karabelas: Are you questioning the Children’s document?
Witness: Yes, directly! I dispute the toxicology report. What has happened to the child, has happened in life. All this is not medical and forensic science.
Dimitris Karabelas: So the ketamine was given by the medical staff?
Witness: Ketamine has been given after 14:28 when the mother is not with the child.
Dimitris Karampelas: At this point, we submit a request for cross-examination of the medical examiner Sotiris Bouzianis and the doctors/nurses of the Children’s ICU with Ms. Dimakopoulos.
The medical examiner said that Mr. Bouzianis is an excellent medical examiner and added that in his conclusion on Georgina’s death, “He has left the possibility of homicide hanging. He does not say homicide.” He estimated that Mr. Bouzianis “found himself in a big deadlock from his colleagues. There had to be a council”.
