Heavy rains and storms are expected to hit the areas of Trikala and Karditsa already affected by Daniel’s floods from Monday, according to EMY.

In view of the new bad weather, a wide-ranging inter-ministerial meeting is expected to take place at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection tomorrow at noon at 1:00 p.m., with the aim of informing the relevant ministries, the Security Forces, the OTAs of the first and second degree, and all those involved bodies.

According to the latest, updated EMY emergency report, the heaviest rainfall will occur in the western parts of Trikala, Karditsa on Monday and Tuesday, while on Wednesday the eastern parts of Magnesia (Pilio), Sporades and North Evia will also be added.

It should be pointed out that in Thessaly the highest rainfall levels will occur in the prefectures of Karditsa, Trikala and Larissa as well as in the eastern parts of Magnesia.

The general secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, has informed the competent government agencies involved in the service, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness, in order to face directly the effects of the occurrence of intense weather phenomena.

In addition, according to information from the Fire Department, the operational plan is implemented to deal with risks from the occurrence of floods, as well as their accompanying phenomenawhile the Fire Services of the areas where the phenomena are expected to occur, have been placed in a state of increased readiness and further escalation, if required, in order to deal with any problems immediately.

On Monday (25-09-2023) rain is forecast in the west, central and north, while locally strong storms will occur mainly in Epirus, western Macedonia, Thessaly, western and central Sterea and possibly the Ionian. It is noted that in Thessaly the western parts (Karditsa and Trikala prefectures) as well as the western and northern parts of Larissa prefecture will be affected.

On Tuesday (26-09-2023) in the Ionian and continental regions (except central, eastern Macedonia and Thrace) and towards the evening hours in the Sporades and northern Evia, rains and locally strong storms are predicted. In Thessaly, the highest rainfall levels will occur in the prefectures of Karditsa, Trikala, the southern areas of the prefecture of Larissa and towards the evening hours in the northern and eastern parts of the prefecture of Magnesia.

On Wednesday (27-09-2023) rains are forecast for almost the entire country, while locally strong storms will occur in the Ionian, the mainland (except eastern Macedonia and Thrace), the Sporades, northern Evia, western Crete and possibly the western Cyclades. It should be pointed out that in Thessaly the highest rainfall levels will occur in the prefectures of Karditsa, Trikala and Larissa as well as in the eastern parts of Magnesia.

Since it has been nearly two twenty-four hours since the onset of the strong phenomena, EMY will update its emergency bulletins every twelve hours and the updates of the emergency bulletins will be a continuation of this bulletin.
