The case concernedaccording to the indictment, religious relics dated before 1830such as chalices and holy cross, which they were to be given for maintenance and repair. A resident of the area noted their absence when he wanted to photograph them for the needs of preparing a study.
The defendants did not appear in court and were represented by attorneys who denied the charge claiming that after their preservation the relics were returned.
For the same case a priest was also accused but was acquitted in the court of first instance.
