The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection is proceeding with the establishment of the Disaster Recovery Sector for the Region of Thessaly (TAEFK-PTH), with the decision of the Deputy Minister responsible for Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid, Christos Triantopoulos, and following the measures established in context of dealing with the effects of the severe bad weather “Daniel” that hit areas of Thessaly.

In particular, due to the successive extreme weather phenomena and natural disasters that hit the Region of Thessaly, causing damage to buildings, due to which there will be needs to intervene and monitor the restoration work, the imperative need to carry out restoration work for the damage caused to the buildings in the affected areas of the Region of Thessaly, as well as the extent of the affected areas, but also the distance of these areas from the already existing Disaster Recovery Services, it was deemed necessary to establish the Disaster Recovery Sector near the affected areas of the Region Thessaly.

The aim of the Disaster Recovery Sector of the Thessaly Region, which is under the General Directorate of Disaster Recovery of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, is to provide the best and fastest service to citizens based in Larissa. Also, to serve the citizens, special support offices will operate in Volos, Karditsa and Trikala, in consultation with the local government organizations.

Responsibilities

According to an announcement by the ministry, the responsibilities of the above Sector are indicative and not limited to:

– Control of the supporting documents submitted for the granting of housing assistance, as well as all the required actions to determine the affected beneficiaries.

– Inspection and characterization of the buildings due to the damage suffered by the fires and floods, upon request of the interested parties, in accordance with the applicable provisions.

– Control of repair studies as well as required procedures for the granting of housing assistance for repair and the control of the progress of repair works.

– Required procedures for determining the beneficiaries of housing assistance for reconstruction, self-housing or completion, the approval of housing assistance and its granting as well as the control of the progress of reconstruction, self-housing or completion works.

– Procedures required to determine beneficiaries of rent/cohabitation subsidy to cover temporary housing costs of affected residents.

– Informing the citizens about all the issues of the rehabilitation of the affected buildings.

In addition, it is clarified that the work of restoring the buildings affected by floods and fires in the aforementioned Regional Units will be carried out under the instructions, direct control and coordination of the General Directorate of Natural Disaster Recovery of the General Secretariat of Natural Disaster Recovery and State Assistance of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, which retains the responsibilities deriving from the current provisions.

Finally, by a decision of Mr. Triandopoulos, specific matters relating to the management and the general operation of the Disaster Recovery Sector may be determined and other related matters may be regulated, as well as any other relevant detail.
