In the audience of the Three-Member Misdemeanor Appeal Court of Thessaloniki, an accident that occurred in September 2016 was revived, when, during the 46th TIF Rally, a racing car veered from its course in a turn, as a result of which it dragged and fatally injured a 47-year-old spectator.

The incident happened on a special route of the race, specifically at the 6th km of the Palaiokastro – Polygyrou provincial road, in Halkidiki.

The appellate court found the match security officer guilty of manslaughter and sentenced him – with the recognition of two mitigating factors – to 12 months in prison, which was suspended for 3 years (from 18 months at first instance).

The indictment accused him of not having taken the necessary safety measures to avoid the tragic event.

The Court of Appeal acquitted the representative of the Federation of Motor Sports who had approved the holding of the race and had been sentenced at first instance to 10 months in prison (suspended), a sentence that had also been imposed on the driver of the racing car (the case for him was not brought to the Court of Appeal).
