The operation continues at the first light of day at a depth of 60 meters in the sea, where the helicopter is believed to have gone down
Searches are continuing to locate the operator after the helicopter crash in the beach Pearin northern Evia without, however, any trace of him having been identified so far.
The operation continues with the first light of day at a depth of 60 meters in the sea, where it is estimated that the helicopter has gone down.
It is an Agusta A109, civilian type, which was performing a visual flight, Afidnai – Mantoudi – Volos Industrial Area. According to the flight schedule, the helicopter left at 8:00 a.m. from Afidnes bound for Volos Airport. The bad weather led the pilot to land at Mantoudi until the weather improved, but it is not known if there was another person on board. So far, however, reports say the operator was alone in the helicopter.
Then he took off again for his destination. According to eyewitnesses, it may have made a low flight to avoid bad weather, while residents heard a very loud noise, saw the helicopter disappear from the sky and fall into the sea, at a point where the depth reaches up to 60 meters.
The moment of fall
Watercraft, a Super Puma helicopter and Coast Guard frogmen immediately rushed to the scene, however, until the last light of the day, the searches were fruitless.
According to the report by Stavros Ioannidis on SKAI TV, it is not an Armed Forces helicopter, but that does not rule out the possibility that it is a hired helicopter and fly for one of the agencies involved in weather management in the area.
