The devastation in Northern Evia is incalculable: villages without electricity and water, roads cut off and mud everywhere

Unbelievable images that capture a painful disaster are recorded in Northern Evia from storm Elias that hit the area. Roads cut in half, areas without any communication, without electricity and water, damages incalculable, destroyed houses, an entire area filled with mud, tree trunks and portable materials. Entire mountains have “moved” and in their direction towards the sea they left nothing in their wake. Agricultural installations but also businesses in the muddy waters and villages blocked with no access.

The road network it is unrecognizable and indeed in many cases full of pitfalls. The traffic is literally paralyzed and the machines are fighting a great battle to slowly restore junctions so that at least the rescue crews can pass. Since yesterday they have been working intensively to restore a section of about 100 meters on the Prokopi-Mantoudi road, which literally left its position after the overflowing of the Kireas river. These are temporary restoration works that are expected to be completed in the next few hours.

The villages Rovies, Mantoudi and Kymasi, Pefki and Istiaias they still do not have time to count their wounds. The municipality Limnis-Mantoudiou-Agias ‘Annas and the Municipality of Istiaea Edipsos, were at the center of the disaster, their infrastructure, property and facilities have been destroyed and the damage is incalculable. In fact, from the moment water stopped coming down from the mountains, the picture is disappointing and depressing.

The residents are more worried about the future and the developments, as they did not have time to recover from the previous bad weather. Already, as of today, according to an announcement by the mayor, Giorgos Tsapourniotis, the recording of damages has begun and citizens are invited to declare the damages.

According to the Civil Protection services, since September 27, 327 calls have been made to the Fire Department and 226 water pumps have been carried out, countless trees have been cut, while 17 people have been taken to a safe place. But the calls to pump water, mainly from residences, continue and multiply, as do the calls to remove the mud and create access to villages and houses.

According to an announcement by the General Police Directorate of Central Greece, traffic has been interrupted at the following points:

– On the 64th anniversary of E.O. Chalkidas – Edipsos (district of Strofillias).

– On the 2nd month of Ep.O. Kirinthos – Kryas Vrysis (Kirinthos).

– On the 127th month of E.O. Chalkida – Edipsou (place of Rema Katsirelou Istiaia).

– In EP.O. Rovion – Istiaia (via Maroulio – Vouta).

– In EP.O. Istiaias – Vouta.

– In EP.O. Rovion – Osiou David (at the height of Paleochori), from the 49.5th c/th (Prokopi) to the 57th c/th (Mantoudi) of the E.O. Chalkida – Edipsou. Only vehicles with a gross weight of less than 3.5 tons are allowed to travel at the point and through the E.O. Prokopio – Kirinthos intersection (Daphnousa – Troupi – Kalivia – Spathari – Metohi).

In addition, vehicle traffic is temporarily prohibited:

– From the 16th month (Kastella) to the 49.5th month (Prokopi) of the E.O. Chalkidas – Edipsou, in the traffic flow towards Prokopi. Attention, only vehicles with a gross weight of less than 3.5 tons are allowed to enter the area.

– In the Municipality of Istiaia – Edipsos, in the wider area of ​​Istiaia, Orea, Neo Pyrgos and Agiokampo.

– In the Municipality of Istiaea – Edipsos, in the areas of Asmini, Pefki, Artemisio and Gouves.

Prefecture of Fthiotida:

– In EP.O. Baths of Ypatis – Ladikou – Syka – Vistriza Bridge, due to rainfall – accumulation of water.

Vehicle traffic suspensions continue to apply:

– From the 41,000th month (Drougos position) to the 52,800th month of the P.E.O. Lamia – Larissa and from the 51,000th m/th (New Monastery Junction) to the 54,500th m/th of P.E.O. Lamia – Karditsa.

– On the 1st of the month of Ep.O. P.C. Vardali – Postal Code Filiadonos, due to subsidence of the bridge that leads to T.K. Agrapidias, with the traffic being carried out through the road at the height of the 44.5th street of P.E.O. Lamia – Larissa.

The helicopter was found

According to the mayor of Limni-Mantoudi-Agia Anna, Giorgos Tsapourniotis, the helicopter that had crashed yesterday on the beach of Achladi was located a little while ago. As the mayor notes, “the process of retrieving the pilot has begun.”

It is recalled that the helicopter was lost from the radar around 09:30, after 10:00 it was last spotted falling off the beach of Achladi and since then the search by sea and air began. According to eyewitnesses, it was flying at a low altitude and suddenly crashed into the sea a short distance from the coast. The searches continued today until a while ago, when it was located by the participants in the searches.
