Answers to the causes of the helicopter crash are sought from the autopsy and the “black” box
The authorities are looking for answers to the causes of the helicopter crash in Evia after the unlucky pilot was identified.
Shortly after 11:00 a.m. Coast Guard divers were able to locate the helicopter and reach the fuselage. The unfortunate pilot was in the cockpit seat. From there the recovery took place and he was handed over to EKAV rescuers to then transfer him to the Mantoudi Health Center.
The next few hours are what experts speculate that there will be some answers from the autopsy on whether the operator had a problem that may have caused the fatal fall.
At the same time, the helicopter’s black box will be searched, if and as long as it exists, as in some helicopters it is not mandatory to carry it. Experts will take the data it contains to see if there was any mechanical problem recorded there or any evidence from the communication the pilot had with the control center until the last moment he fell into the sea.
Besides, in the next few days an attempt will be made to retrieve the helicopter. This is a particularly time-consuming process, after which technicians will scrutinize every part of the helicopter to see what could have caused the fall that sadly claimed the life of the 69-year-old pilot.
According to information from the Civil Aviation Service, the A-109 helicopter took off yesterday morning from the heliport of Afidna, while the operator informed that it will land in Mantoudi, Evia. The helicopter landed at 09:00 in the morning and took off at 10:13 from Mantoudi and has since been lost to radar.
