The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, in charge of Infrastructure, Nikos Tachiaos, today, Saturday September 30, conducted an autopsy on the areas of Evia that were affected by the bad weather Elias.

Mr. Tachiaos, accompanied by the vice-governor of Evia, Mr. Giorgos Kelaiditis and the director of the Special Service for Public Works Construction and Maintenance of Transport Infrastructure of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Dimitris Anagnopoulos, visited northern Evia in order to ascertain the effects of bad weather on its infrastructure wider area.

In a meeting held at the Mantoudi town hall, in the presence of the mayor Giorgos Tsapourniotis, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure requested a detailed list of the damaged projects, in order to organize a special team of civil engineers for a thorough autopsy in the next few days.

Afterwards, Mr. Tachiaos went to the Municipality of Istiaea, where together with the mayor Yiannis Kontzias, they visited infrastructure projects of the municipality.

“We were today in the long-suffering Evia in order to see first-hand the damage caused to critical infrastructures by the severe weather events of the last month” said Mr. Tachiaos and added: “I want to assure the citizens that in cooperation with the Region of Central Greece we will take care to immediately start restoration projects, so that normality can be restored to the social and economic life of Evia as soon as possible. The aim of the government is to shield the infrastructures so that they are more resistant to the challenges of the climate crisis and at the same time they are a driver of development and improvement of the daily life of the citizens”.
