“At 17:00 (local and Greek time) near Striba village, Nadvirna district, an oil pipeline (150 mm in diameter) broke,” Ukraine’s emergency response service said.
A fire broke out for reasons still unclear, and local media reported that there was a powerful explosion.
“Nine people were injured,” said the governor of the region, Svetlana Onyschuk. “According to initial information, two children and three adults are in a critical condition with multiple burns,” it said.
Images posted on social media showed thick clouds of black smoke rising over the village.
The location where the incident occurred is hundreds of kilometers from the fighting raging with Russian forces in eastern Ukraine.
