The farmers with their tractors took to the road in response to the call of the Committee of Aggrieved Farmers and the United Federation of Agricultural Associations of the Prefecture of Larissa
Mobilization held this morning at the Platykampo-Agias roundabout on the old Larissa – Volos National Highway, farmers protesting, among other things, the payment of compensations and the removal from the fields of the waters that “drowned” Thessaly in the previous period after the bad weather Daniel.
The farmers with their tractors took to the road in response to the call of the Committee of Aggrieved Farmers and the United Federation of Agricultural Associations of the Prefecture of Larisa (EOASNL).
“Today is the beginning of our mobilizations after the catastrophic flood that has hit Thessaly and a month later all we have received as help are vague promises that at some point we will be compensated without any timetable” said the president of the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Larisa , Rizos Maroudas adding that the main problem at the moment is the approximately 25 thousand acres that are under water.
“What we are asking for is that a financial aid be given immediately so that we can cover our needs and also start some work that is necessary,” said Mr. Maroudas, among other things, regarding the demands of the farmers.
For his part, Yiannis Koukoutsis, representing the committee of flood victims, stated that the priority is to rehabilitate the affected people who have nowhere to stay, to have a clear schedule for the removal of the water from the fields, and to provide immediate compensation.
