“The resources currently available from the European Solidarity Fund to deal with natural disasters are extremely limited,” said the Prime Minister
The European Political Community is an institution that allows all the countries of the European continent to talk and discuss burning issues that concern Europe today, emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis from Granada.
He added that “tomorrow we will have the opportunity at the Extraordinary European Council to discuss a number of critical issues regarding the strategic direction of Europe and the immediate priorities that we must address. We will discuss the challenges ahead on the immigration front. I want to express my satisfaction that an agreement in principle has been reached in the Council on its regulation immigration and asyluma significant relief for first host countries.
“However, I will again insist on the need to increase the European Union’s budget in the context of the upcoming review, so that more European resources are available to deal with such a critical issue that concerns the entire European Union.”
“The same is true for her tackling the climate crisisespecially regarding climate adaptation actions.
I also had the opportunity in Malta, at the meeting of the countries of the European South, to repeat my indignation at the fact that the resources available today from the European Solidarity Fund for dealing with natural disasters are extremely limited and Greece will propose the increasing these taxes by at least 2.5 billion euros, so that European citizens know that Europe is by their side in any case, should a country be hit by natural disasters linked to climate change.
Greece today is economically strong and can absorb without shock the recent disasters that primarily hit the region of Thessaly. And I want to express once again my satisfaction with the fact that within the existing frameworks and the financial tools at our disposal, the European Commission has moved with great speed, giving our country the maximum possible flexibility to absorb European funds for to face this very large natural disaster”.
