The passenger traffic of the Athens airport during September 2023 “took off”, with passengers exceeding 3 million.
More specifically, according to the statistics of the Athens International Airport, passenger traffic amounted to 3,006,870 million passengers, increased by 16.3% compared to 2022 levels, but also increased by 11.8% compared to the pre-pandemic year 2019.

Domestic passenger traffic in the month of September reached 943,924 travelers, a 14.6% increase compared to last year (823,231 passengers) and a corresponding increase of 16.3% compared to 2019.
September also ended with an increase of 9.9% compared to 2019 for international passenger traffic, with 2,063,746 million passengers, which compared to last year registered an increase of 17.2% (1,761,400 million passengers).
Overall, during the first nine months of the year, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 21.68 million, up 25.7% compared to 2022, but also up 8.6% compared to 2019. In detail, both domestic and international passenger traffic exceeded 2022 levels by 20.3% and 28.3% respectively, while also showing an increase compared to 2019, by 11.3% and 7.3% respectively.
These data prove that 2023 is expected to be a record year for “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport, with aviation market executives stating that it will surpass the historical performance of 2019, since it is estimated that it will close with over 26 million passengers.
Flights
The number of flights at Athens International Airport, during the first nine months of 2023, reached 186,174, recording an increase of 12.9% compared to 2022 and 5.1% compared to 2019 levels.
Both domestic and international flights increased by 7.8% and 17.4% compared to 2022, and respectively by 9.1% and 2.2% compared to 2019.
