A senior public prosecutor, according to a joint announcement by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court, was the one about whom some publications reported, that he was not checked upon entering the supreme court, while he was carrying a weapon.

According to the announcement, the prosecutor in question legally carries a gunis in and out of the supreme court, is known in entrance security and therefore those in charge of checks know that he is armed.

Some websites portray the incident as a lack of security measures.

“Recent publications in the electronic press comment on alleged insufficient security measures for those entering the Courthouse of the Supreme Court, specifically the uncontrolled entry of a person who was carrying a weapon.

In order to restore the truth, we point out the following: This weapon, about which the journalist refers, was brought and is legally carried by a High Prosecutor, who, as a result of his capacity and his frequent visits to the courthouse where the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court are based, was known to the police officers who monitor and supervise the entry of people into the aforementioned courthouse, who, in fact, know that the Prosecutor Officer in question legally carried the specific weapon. It should also be pointed out that the way of entering the specific courthouse for both the Judicial and Prosecution Officers as well as the Judicial Employees who serve in the Supreme Court and the Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court, as well as the lawyers and the public, as well as the control of the entrants have be appointed competently from the beginning of the current judicial year (i.e. from 18.9.2023)”.
