The extension of time from 15 to 49 years of compensation of the amateur Panathinaikos, is the solution for the double renovation of the stadium of Panathinaikos and Votanikos, said the Minister of Development and Investment, ‘Adonis Georgiadis, from the floor of Parliament presenting the relevant provisions amendment tabled to the investment bill.
The Minister stated that this extension is a promise we had given to the amateur Panathinaikos, in order to conclude the agreement between the Municipality of Athens, the amateur Panathinaikos and the state, in order to proceed with the process of starting the competition for the double renovation of the Botanikos and Panathinaikos stadium.
At the same time, he asked for the support of all parties for this amendment, in order to send a message that we all agree to become a project that had started many years ago and has stopped for various reasons. But now, the minister said, “we have found the opportunity due to the Recovery Fund, which will cover all the accompanying projects related to the surrounding areas, while the Public Investment Program will finance the construction of the stadium.
With the provisions of this amendment, said Mr. Georgiadis, “we secure the amateur Panathinaikos and we start the competition for the double renovation which is the biggest project concerning the urban fabric of Athens, with the park of Alexandra Avenue that will be created there” .
SYRIZA’s rapporteur, Haris Mamoulakis, said that his party is in favor of the double renovation project, as it is a request of the Municipality of Athens and in fact with a large majority of the municipal council. He noted, however, that the amendment, which incorporates the provisions of double regeneration, has six articles that are mutually exclusive and added that it would have been better if it had come with a separate legislative entity.
Mr. Georgiadis replied that all the provisions of the amendment concern the resolution of technical and self-evident things that will not put any party in a difficult position to vote for it. He also announced that he accepts all the ministerial amendments that have been submitted to the draft law.
