From today, Monday, October 16, until Friday, July 19, 2024, the measures to restrict vehicle traffic in the center of Athens (ring) are put into effect, following a Joint Ministerial Decision of the Ministers of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikouras, Environment and Energy, Theodoros Skylakakis, Protection of Politis, Ioannis Economou and Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, as well as the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukou.

The roundabout will operate from Monday to Thursday from 07:00 to 20:00 and on Friday from 07:00 to 15:00.

According to the decision, the following are exempted from the restrictions and will freely enter the center of Athens:

  • Purely electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, natural gas and LPG vehicles.
  • EURO 6 cars, except for the above drive technologies, as long as they emit less than 120 g/km of carbon dioxide. (combined cycle price, according to the New European Driving Cycle/NEDC), which have been classified for the first time in a member state of the European Union until 31/12/2020.
  • EURO 6 cars, except for the above drive technologies, as long as they emit less than 145 g/km of carbon dioxide. (combined cycle value according to the Worldwide Light Test Procedure – Worldwide Light Test Procedure/WLTP), which are classified for the first time in a member state of the European Union from 01/01/2021 onwards.
  • Those who have the relevant ring license

Regarding last year’s ring license holders, the Ministry of Citizen Protection points out that they will be able to use last year’s license for ten working days. Until then there will be flexibility in the checks, with the presentation of last year’s permit to enter the ring.
