17 months imprisonmentwith a three-year suspension, was imposed on the British passenger who on Sunday night caused an emergency landing on an aircraft, at the international airport “Macedonia”, when in a state of intoxication she displayed aggressive behavior towards the crew members.

The Autoforo Three-member Criminal Court of Thessalonikibefore whom she was tried, found her guilty of obstructing traffic, disturbing the order on board the aircraft and disobeying the commander’s orders.

Apologizing, the 61-year-old accused he apologized for her behavior, which she attributed to taking medication, while stating that the consumption of alcohol took place before she boarded the aircraft – which was flying from Glasgow, Scotland to Antalya, Turkey.

According to what the pilot of the aircraft and a stewardess testified, the accused attacked the crew with shouts and punches, even attempting to bite them, while she inflicted physical injuries on herself as she hit her face on the seat. Despite the crew’s efforts to calm her down, giving her oxygen – they said in their statements read to the court – she continued her violent behaviour.

In these circumstances, the pilot of the aircraft requested for flight safety reasons to make an emergency landing at Thessaloniki airport and after the British woman disembarked (along with her husband who was present in court) she was arrested by the police. The flight then continued normally to its destination.
