“The State was, is and will certainly continue to be on the side of the Orthodox Church as well as all religious communities”, stated the general secretary of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Religious Affairs
Regarding the episode in the Holy Church of Agios Panteleimonos in Athensthe general secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Mr. George Kalantzismade the following statement:
“Yesterday a new, absolutely reprehensible incident against Orthodox Christians took place in the Holy Church of Agios Panteleimon in Athens. The Greek Police once again did their duty promptly and effectively.
The Orthodox Church, as evidenced by the data detailed in the annual reports of the Ministry of Education, Religion and Sports regarding incidents against places of religious importance, is consistently and by far the first victim of attacks in Greece.
It is also the only religious community that received a terrorist attack with the aim of causing casualties on December 27, 2018 (planting of an explosive device by anarchists at the entrance of the Holy Temple of Agios Dionysios in Athens) and on April 21, 2020 (planting of an explosive device by an extreme religious a Christian who declared himself “Warrior of God” in the Petraki Monastery where the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece is housed).
The Greek State was, is and will certainly continue to be on the side of the Orthodox Church as well as all religious communities in the defense of religious freedom and the active support of the values of mutual respect and dialogue».
