What the government is planning is the digital solution for the service of the Fire Brigade and volunteer groups by placing long-range micro cameras and night radar on already existing mobile telephone antennas in all the forest areas of the country.
In government planning ahead of the next firewall season, artificial intelligence is coming in for it dealing with the forest fires that are increasingly intensifying on the planet as a result of Climate Change.
According to reports what the government is planning is the digital solution for the service of the Fire Brigade and volunteer groups by placing long-range micro cameras and night radar on already existing mobile telephone antennas in all the forest areas of the country.
According to the same information, this will be done with systems developed by Greek companies -AI detects smoke sources- and send automated updates to the Fire Department with a geolocation point. It is noted that the tests today are carried out with smoke detectors, while the geolocation technology will also help in the detection of arson since it will have recorded the place and time of the start of a small outbreak.
The reason why these tools are preferred to be installed on mobile phone antennas is none other than the fact that the antenna installations offer continuous power supply and security against possible theft of equipment as well as height, thus doing the work of an observatory which is currently staffed by volunteers and requires continuous concentration and observation with traditional binoculars.
The two Ministries which is in their competence, Digital Governance and Civil Protection and Climate Crisis, they keep a low profile since it has to be proven in practice that the systems actually work. However, the mechanism is alert and since the pilot program in forests of Attica (Pendeli, Hymettos, Parnitha) proves successful, all equipment can be installed before the start of the fire season.
Thus, today, October 25, the first test operation in Penteli with the presence of the Minister of Digital GovernanceDimitris Papastergiou and his Deputy MinisterKonstantinos Kyranakis, while Vassilis Kikilias and o. had a parallel connection at the Ministry of Civil Protection Minister of State, Akis Schertsos at Megaro Maximos. Also present were the forces of the 9th Station of the Fire Brigade and executives of the companies that presented their systems in real conditions.
It should be noted that of the three tests with smoke generators established automatic smoke detection with simultaneous transmission of precise location that can be interfaced with Fire Department systems.
Finally, it is pointed out that a platform is being created by the competent Ministry of Digital Governance that will be ready on May 1st to identify plots of land that need cleaning of flammable materialwith an automatic notification system of the Municipalities for their owners so that they can intervene in time.
