The admissions of patients with Covid-19 in single beds have increased, while all other indicators show a decrease, according to the epidemiological report of the EODY for the week of October 16-22 for viral infections of the respiratory system (SARS-CoV-2, viruses influenza and respiratory syncytial virus – RSV).

In particular, according to the EODY report:

SARS-CoV2 virus – Covid-19 infection

The positivity in all tested samples showed a decrease compared to the previous week. The number of admissions for Covid-19 (n=1,065) showed an increase on the previous week and a 12% increase on the average weekly number of new admissions over the previous 4 weeks.

THE number of new intubations (n=20) presented reduction compared to the previous week, as well as a decrease compared to the average weekly number of new intubations during the previous 4 weeks (n=21).

The number of patients with Covid-19 infection who are intubated is 56.

50 deaths were recorded with a median age of 87 years (range 52-99 years).

The most frequent BA.2 sub-variant was XBB.1.5 (47%), followed by EG.5 (27%) and XBB.1.16 (17%).

A total of 76 positive samples of the BA.2.86 sub-variant have been recorded in Greece, with sampling dates from 5 September to 9 October.

Viral load surveillance in municipal wastewater showed an increase in SARSCoV-2 virus circulation in 1 of 9 areas tested.

Influenza virus: Influenza positivity in the community remains below 10% (sentinel). There were no new serious cases with hospitalization in the ICU, nor a new death from laboratory-confirmed influenza.

Influenza syndromes (regardless of pathogen): The number of influenza cases per 1,000 visits is low.

Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV: No positive samples were found in the community.
