On the occasion of the announcement of ELSTAT’s data on unemployment, the Minister of Labor and Social Security states in his post that we are very close to officially “thawing” the three years.
“We are one breath away from our goal. That is, the unemployment rate should drop below 10% and the three-year terms for 1.3 million workers should be officially “unfrozen” says the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Adonis Georgiadis, on the occasion of the announcement of the data by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), according to which unemployment decreased to 10% in September 2023.
Specifically, Mr. Georgiadis points out the following in a post on his personal social media account:
“Today, I read – with great joy – that ELSTAT announced that unemployment in Greece fell to 10% for the month of September from 10.6%, which was in August.
This practically means that the unemployed in our country decreased by 104,240 people compared to September 2022 and by 24,549 people compared to August 2023.
With slow but steady steps, we move forward and see the fruits of our labors being rewarded.
So we are one breath away from our goal. In other words, to drop the unemployment rate below 10% and to officially “unfreeze” the three-year terms for 1.3 million workers.
Some questioned us and some others mocked us, but the numbers don’t lie.
In recent years, the labor market in Greece, despite the difficulties faced by the recession of the pandemic and the effects of the energy crisis, has managed to reduce the percentages, at the same time that economic recession prevails in many European countries.
Regarding youth unemployment, Greece fell significantly in the relative ranking, with 19.4% behind Spain (27.8%), Italy and Sweden (21.9%), Estonia (20.8%), Croatia , Luxembourg, Slovakia and Portugal.
Reducing youth unemployment is our biggest bet. A few months ago, Greece was first in youth unemployment in the Eurozone, and now we see this rate falling rapidly downwards.
The government’s actions for the integration and reintegration of young people into the labor market with targeted apprenticeship, training and internship programs have contributed significantly to this.
All this time, but also in the coming months, I intend to be very active with these programs, which we are planning together with the relevant ministries, in order to help “open” other jobs, which will help the further retreat of the rates unemployment”.
