Over 5,000 Turkish tourists expected to arrive in the next few days at Thessaloniki on the anniversary of his death Kemal Ataturk.

Already, every weekend we see several tourist buses from Turkey on the streets of Thessaloniki. However, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic (October 29) and at the same time, on November 10, the anniversary of the death of Kemal Ataturk is expected to attract even more visitors from Turkey.

“An incredibly large number of Turkish tourists are expected for the city after November 9, so there will be a lot of traffic around the consulate. This year, with a difference of days, the completion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Republic with the death of Kemal Atatürk”, he notes in Voria.gr the tourist agent, Stefanos Hatzimanolis.

On November 10, in fact, there is a ceremony at the Ataturk Museum that gathers many Turkish tourists. During the ceremony a minute’s silence is observed and the Turkish consul makes a speech.

Due to the high demand, according to Mr. Hatzimanolis, many Turks were forced to book accommodation even outside of Thessaloniki, such as in Kallikrateia, Kavala and Drama. After all, the city’s hotels in the coming days will have very high occupancy rates, as well as Thessaloniki Film Festival, from November 10 to 12 takes place in TEF the tourist exhibition Philoxenia

“We are waiting over 5,000 Turkish tourists in Thessaloniki”, emphasizes Mr. Chatzimanolis.

Today, in fact, the first group of visitors arrived by air, but most are expected to arrive by tourist buses or in their own vehicles in the coming days.

“Normally the parking lot of the Exhibition should be opened because having so many buses on Agios Dimitrios will not help traffic,” he emphasizes and adds that in cases of mass arrivals there is always concern about where the tourist buses will park.
