After the presentation, the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport received questions from those present and in response to that of VoriaThe Deputy Minister, Nikos Tahiaos, he said how the first construction site on the road will be erected early next week.

He was the first to speak Deputy Minister of Macedonia-Thrace, Stathis Konstantinidis, emphasizing the value, necessity and usefulness of the project. “Every project of this size entails difficulties and consequences”, he emphasized, as he is also responsible for mitigating the consequences during the construction of the project.

THE Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Staikourasreferred to a series of ministry projects in the region, such as the Thessaloniki-Edessa axis, the road and rail connection of the port, the connection of the new Pediatric Hospital in Filiro, the flood control projects in Lachanagora, Kalamaria and Oreokastro, the new Courthouse, 16 bioclimatic schools, the new All Day in Evosmos, the Regional Center for Civil Protection, etc.

Mr. Staikouras pointed out that the subway will be operational in 2024 and in six months the extension in Kalamaria will be operational, while he noted that the preliminary works for its extension to the west have begun.

Fly Over beginssaid Mr. Staikouras and referring to the project, he spoke of “multiple benefits in Thessaloniki from the free rapid safe bypass of the urban complex, for increased traffic safety, for environmental upgrading, for increasing the average speed for those moving outside the center, for significant aid to tourism, to drastically reduce transport time and costs, to increase the competitiveness of the secondary and tertiary sector, without tolls”.

The minister spoke of a “flagship project” and said that “there will be a burden on everyday life for a while, but such a burden already exists. We have been making efforts to reduce the impact since July.” He even mentioned that the 110 new electric buses will be added to the OADTH fleet by the end of April 2024, while he described Thessaloniki as a “city of holistic development”.

The representative of the special purpose contractor company “Kedrinos Lofos” said, among other things, that more than 1,000 workers will be employed during the construction of the project. “Fly Over is not a temporary solution,” he explained.

THE Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Nikos Tachiaos made the central presentation of the project, speaking of “demonization of the project because it carries the experience of the subway. It would help to start construction of the Fly Over after the Metro is operational for psychological reasons.”

The regional had reached its limits in 2000 and today we are at the levels of 2009, said Mr. Tachiaos and added that in three years the city would reach its limits.

“Those who seek to wreck the project are charging the State. There is no way for the Greek State to withdraw from this contract,” he clarified.

The history of the project as presented by Mr. Tachiaos was also of interest. In 2010, it was foreseen with the drafting of the Strategic Infrastructure and Transport Plan for Thessaloniki. In the period 2015-2019, there was a pause in the maturation of the project due to lack of funding and recourse to the SC.

He also emphasized that the environmental benefits are very important despite the increase, the doubling, of the vehicles in service.

Mr. Tachiaos mentioned that the new maximum speed limit on the ring road during the construction of the project will be 60 km/h.

“There will be disruption and suffering. To adapt to a new reality. Illegal parking will be strictly controlled. Already the presence of the police in the city is evident. Unnecessary movements bring prohibitions”, added Mr. Tahiaos.
