The Senate of the National Technical University of Athens commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Polytechnic University uprising with pride and awareness of its timeless message and invites the university community, the youth and all citizens to participate in the anniversary events.

Honoring the uprising is not limited to the three-day commemoration but will span an “anniversary year” with actions that are planned and will be implemented and in collaboration with agencies that join forces and initiatives for the same purpose.

In November 1973, at the National Technical University of Athens, he bravely expressed himself against the dictatorial regime, the youth’s need for education, democracy and freedom.

The Polytechnic has since been associated with social claims for the same ideals and remains a symbol of struggle and vindication. The vindication of that struggle has a reflection on the progress of the Hellenic University and the prosperity of the country.

The National Technical University contributes to the development of the country, stands out for its social contribution, and achieves international achievements in scientific research. Its human resources, led by student engineers and young researchers, are at the forefront of efforts to address the serious challenges and exploit great opportunities of our time: environmental/climate/energy crisis, rapid development/penetration of artificial intelligence as well as retention of young scientists in the country.

The Polytechnic today must remain a place for the free movement of ideas, respect for different points of view, resistance to any lack of democracy, be inclusive and broadly multi-thematic. This is what the timeless message of the Polytechnic rebellion and the contemporary social demands put forward, this must be highlighted by the way it is celebrated, and this is today the collective and individual responsibility of the members of the Polytechnic community.
