A pharmacist in Chania fell victim to a phone scam, as a result of which he saw thousands of euros disappearing from his account.

According to what he reported to the police authorities, the 66-year-old pharmacist received a phone call from an unknown man, who claimed to be an accountant for the Naval General Staff and that he had to deposit a large sum of money for the costs of the medicines. The perpetrator managed to convince the 66-year-old, who transferred the amount of 4,120 euros to him via e-banking.

As soon as he realized that it was a fraud, he reported the incident to the authorities who, through the account to which the money was transferred, were able to locate and to arrest a 19-year-old local youth in Ioanninawho is expected to be brought to justice.

It was immediately investigated by officers of the Kissamos Police Department, a case of fraud against a local businessman. For this case, a case file was filed against a citizen who was arrested.

In particular, yesterday (07.11.2023) tin the morning an unknown man introduced himself as an employee of the Naval General Staff (G.E.N) through a telephone conversation with his employer and citing false facts as true, managed to convince him to transfer a sum of 4,120 euros via Internet Banking.

From the thorough investigation and preliminary investigation of the Kissamos Police Department and after the appropriate use of information, the details of the national beneficiary of the bank account, who resides in Ioannina, were verified.

Immediately, following an order from the Security Sub-Directorate of Ioannina, the citizen was located and arrested yesterday (08.11.2023) by police officers of the Security Sub-Directorate of Ioannina.
