Today Orthodoxy honors Saint Nile the Myroblytis and the only church dedicated to this saint is in Piraeus.

Saint Nilos came from Kynouria and was an ascetic in the Great Lavra of Mount Athos. He passed away peacefully and later his Holy relic exuded myrrh.

His church is located on the borders of Gallipoli with the district of Hydraiki, in Piraeus.

This region is also known as the birthplace of the actor Dimitris Papamichael and also from the lyrics of Bayandera’s song “In the evening I started / with an old friend of mine / for Hatzikyriakeio / and for Agios Nilos“, performed by Vassilis Tsitsanis and the Smyrna folk song Paporaki “Every night in my dream I sing / Agios Nilos, Keratsini, Kokkinia“.

The church was built in 1928 on the initiative of Eleni Mamai as a small church, which began to be rebuilt in its current form from 1956.

The works were completed in November 1973 and then the opening of the temple took place.

In this temple there is part of his relics, while the rest have been transferred to Mount Athos.
