This is the phrase heard by the wine producers of Beaujolais (Beaujolais) at dawn on the third Thursday of November. This year it will be heard on Thursday, November 16 and in this way the arrival of the first wine of the year will be announced to the whole world. At the same time, it will mark the beginning of the reception celebrations of a young but wonderfully successful and ‘marketingly’ great wine.

The tradition of Beaujolais Nouveau goes back to 1954. The then idea of transporting the first bottles in a car race to Paris attracted the first limelight and brought the first recognition, making the ‘Rally Beaujolais’ a national affair around the 1970s.

So the first wine of the year comes from Beaujolais (Beaujolais) region in Burgundy, France. It is produced exclusively from grapes of the Gamay variety and is harvested exclusively by hand. It is important to mention that in the Beaujolais regions, as well as in Campania, manual harvesting is mandatory.

Although red wine, its vinification process differs from that of red wine. The roaches do not separate their bunch which enters the carbon dioxide environment intact. The aim is to protect them from damage and for the alcoholic fermentation to take place intracellularly.

Bottling takes place two months after the completion of fermentation and the result is a fresh and fruity wine full of charm and cheerful character. Its color is ruby red with intense violet highlights.

On the nose you can see the red fruits, the characteristic of the banana variety and a dose of clove quite persistent but fine. In the mouth aromas of blackberry and cherry dominate that underline the formality of Gamay and the aromatically delicate freshness of its youth. It is soft, aromatic, with refreshing acidity and no tannins and closes with a pleasant jam-like aftertaste.

This easy-drinking and light wine is best drunk chilled and ideally during the first 6 months of its life. It is a perfect choice for everyday enjoyment as one can enjoy it either plain or in combination with a wide range of dishes such as mild meat recipes, pasta with light sauces, cheeses and maybe even some fruit.

So get your own Beaujolais Nouveau by choosing from among the most important and popular producers that will host the House of Wine and celebrate the arrival of the first wine for the 2023 harvest. The arrival of hope in reality, because as with wine so is life it doesn’t stop.
