Roma protest the death of a 17-year-old by a policeman in the Viotia region
The incidents in the area of Thebes in which Roma groups are the protagonists are escalating. In the Fire of Thebes and on the “terror bridge” as they call her bridge Livadeia – Thebes national roadat the height of Aliartou, Roma have gathered, set up barricades and set fires, protesting the death of the 17-year-old.
It is the second day where traffic on the Livadeia – Thebes National Highway takes place through bypasses while a strong police force is monitoring the situation very closely to prevent the incidents from spreading.
The young Roma trash cans and tires have been set on fire and a suffocating atmosphere has been created in the wider area.
The mayor of Aliartou, Giorgos Dasiotis, who tried to calm down the Roma groups and prevent the incidents from spreading, suffered a slight head injury, went to the local health center and was given first aid, while the police officers who were there proceeded to use chemicals to to prevent the extension of episodes.
