Roula Pispirigou, who pleaded not guilty at the beginning of the trial for attempted murder and manslaughter against Georgina, today is called to publicly justify her position.
Today, Roula Pispirigou is expected to stand before the judges of the MOD and answer the two heavy charges attributed to her for acts she did against her first-born daughter Georgina on January 29, 2022.
The trial began last January and it took more than 70 sessions, with the examination of dozens of witnesses, doctors, nurses, medical examiners and other scientists, until the moment of the 35-year-old mother’s apology arrived and while her second trial for the deaths of the two youngest of her children has already begun.
Roula Pispirigou, who pleaded not guilty at the beginning of the trial for attempted murder and manslaughter against Georgina, today is called to publicly justify her position.
She is asked to give her own version of how Georgina disappeared inside the Aglaia Kyriakou Hospital, while according to the doctors of the hospital “she had a good clinical picture”.
Judicial authorities attribute to the mother a “criminal plan to exterminate” her daughter, which the first time in April 2021, “failed to give the expected result for the accused”, leaving the child with quadriplegia. A plan that had as a key tool, according to the charge, a toxic substance that was hugely debated during the trial: ketamine.
During the evidentiary process, the court allowed a lot of time for scientific opinions to be heard on the admissions of the case file. Thus, statements were heard that strengthened the indictment, but witness statements were also heard that questioned many issues such as whether the amount of ketamine that Georgina seems to have received could have caused death.
Pispirigou herself has from the beginning questioned the substance itself but also how it was administered to the victim, as she does not accept that it was her own hand that poisoned the child. “It was the doctors who administered it,” repeats the accused. Today, Roula Pispirigou is expected to be questioned about the allegations she makes, as the three regular judges and four jurors will want to get answers from her on a number of issues.
The apology, once started, is not expected to be completed during today’s trial.
