The Police are on high alert ahead of the events for the 50th anniversary of the Polytechnic uprising that culminates tomorrow, Fridaywith crowds flocking to the institution to pay tribute to all those who fought to bring down the junta.

According to information, the planning of the security measures for the anniversary of the Polytechnic includes triple police barriers, triple patrols and more controls. This plan will be implemented by at least 5,000 from all Law, Security and Traffic services. Of these, 1,300 belong to the 64 divisions of the MAT that will be available, while helicopters and drones will provide the image from the air in order to direct ground forces.

At the same time, the water-throwing vehicles of the police, the auras, as well as teams of the Special Suppression Anti-Terrorism Unit (EKAM) of the Hellenic Police will be on hand. In particular, the Aiantes will be in specific disputed points in case of incidents or tensions in order to use them as well.

At the same time, in addition to the increased presence of police officers around the Polytechnic, Greek university institutions, government buildings, police departments and the American embassy, ​​ELAS has also taken special measures to protect the Israeli embassy as well as other possible “targets” due to the war in Gaza.

Security measures will be particularly increased in the area of ​​Exarchia, where the situation has already been tense in recent days with the incidents that took place due to the works being done for the construction of the Metro, while the “puzzle” is being added to the tension that exists because of the death last Saturday (11/11) of a 17-year-old in Viotia after a policeman was shot.

Changes to public transport routes – Which metro stations close at midday on Friday

Traffic regulations in the center of Athens and route changes in public transport are in effect due to the events for the anniversary of the Polytechnic University. In particular, due to the events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Polytechnic and with the aim of the safe circulation of public transport and the traveling public, OASA made temporary changes to the route or transfer until Saturday 18 November 2 at 06:00. starting point of bus lines and trolley lines on streets surrounding the Polytechnic and throughout the city center, gradually and depending on the prevailing traffic conditions and the instructions and measures of EL.AS.

In addition, tomorrow Friday the 17th of the month, by order of EL.AS., the Monastiraki, Concert Hall, Syntagma and University Metro stations will close at 14:00 and the trains will pass through these stations without making a stop.

According to the police, measures to facilitate traffic in the wider area of ​​the center of Athens have been planned and will be taken by the Attica Traffic Directorate.

The police appeals to drivers, from Wednesday (11-15-2023) to Friday (11-17-2023), to avoid driving and parking their vehicles in the areas of the events, the route of the march and around it Embassy of the USA, as well as in the wider area of ​​the Center, both to serve them and to prevent additional traffic problems.
