By decision of the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zaharakis, the term of the temporary Board of Directors of the Ark of the World is extended, with the sole focus of the interest of vulnerable children who have been found outside their families and live in the Ark of the World.

After checking the competent services of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family and the social services of the Regions, as well as the report on the work of the new Board of Directors, it is found that the temporary administration has ensured the orderly operation of the institution.

It is recalled that on November 22, 2022, following serious allegations of abusive behavior against minors who resided in the institution, it was decided to replace the Board of Directors of the Ark of the World by a temporary administration with a term of one year.

The President and members of the new Board of Directors of the Ark of the World held a meeting at the Maximos Palace, with the Minister of State, Stavros Papastavrou, where they informed him about the actions of the temporary administration, in the presence of the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zaharakis.

After the meeting, the Minister of State, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou, made the following statement:

“Warm thanks on behalf of the Greek Government to Ms. Martinou and all the members of the Board of Directors of the Ark of the World for the great, essential and selfless work they carried out.

The members of the Board of Directors they took over the management of the Organization in a very difficult situation, under the shadow of serious complaints. Complaints that we must not allow to tarnish concepts intertwined with Greek society, such as volunteering and solidarity.

Kivotos worked in these transitional months in an exemplary manner, as a net of protection and love for the children who live in the accommodation structures without their families.

Everyone’s joint effort continues unwaveringly, with a firm focus on the best for these children.”

The Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Mrs. Sofia Zaharaki, said:

“Today we are renewing the term of the Board of Directors of the Ark of the World, which is successfully continuing the difficult task assigned to it.

I would like to express a big thank you to the President Mrs. Alexandra Martinou and the members of the Board of Directors. for their tireless efforts, willingness to give, their efficiency.

The goal of all of us is for the children of Kivotos to continue to live in an embrace of protection and care, as they deserve.”
