A certain glamor from past decades mixed with the hype of new businesses in the center is what you can expect from Parador, a space with a swimming pool, restaurant and sauna that has just opened on the terrace of the Renata building, in Vila Buarque, central region of São Paulo .

With its facade marked by cobogós, the modernist construction designed by Oswaldo Bratke (1907-1997) underwent a retrofit that transformed commercial slabs into 93 apartments ranging from 24 m² to 190 m², with 14 configurations — among them, a duplex unit with bathtub and view of Copan. They can be rented through the Tabas platform (tabas.com.br) with a minimum stay of one night.
The new addition reinforces the creative and hipster atmosphere of the city center, following the same trend as other bars, restaurants and cultural spaces that have recently opened in the area, such as Cineclube Cortina and Bonita Café.
There is a certain hotel feel, which is justified: rooms can be rented and whoever is staying has priority to access the on-site sauna, gym and swimming pool. Well lit, the 350 m² space on the third floor of the building is divided between the restaurant room, with 50 seats, and the pool area, with 16 sun loungers and armchairs.
Small, the terrace makes up for the view of the city center — it faces the Tokyo building, a mix of karaoke and restaurant, and next to the Circolo Italiano. Restaurant customers can use the pool, sauna and gym on a day use basis (R$ 180). But, to guarantee a sun lounger in the outdoor area, you have to pay R$350, which goes towards eating and drinking.
The restaurant, in fact, is open from breakfast, available daily for a fixed price. For R$89, the customer is served at a hot and cold drinks station, receives a basket of assorted breads at the table that changes every week and chooses an option from the à la carte menu, with a choice of eggs and toast.
A trend that has been gaining strength in the city, the kitchen service is continuous from 12pm to 7pm with the same menu, which is divided between recipes served in the lounge and others that can be ordered while enjoying the pool.
In the first case, there are suggestions such as the crudo of the day (slices of fish with ponzu sauce, horseradish and chayote spaghetti, R$ 67), casaecce (cinnamon bark-shaped pasta, with goat cheese and pistachio pesto , R$ 58) and the breaded tongue (with gribiche sauce, based on egg yolks, and sorrel, a leaf, for R$ 49). The person who signs the creations is Patrick Bragato, a Brazilian who grew up in France, where he worked as a chef. Bragatto, who returned to the country last year, had been busy hosting closed dinners until then.
The drinks menu, as lean as the food menu, caters to those who like to order a classic, like a dry martini (R$45), before trying a house creation — the Parador offers jabuticaba and peach sparkling wine, gin and lemon Sicilian (R$42). Gastronomy and cocktails will be the protagonists of a program of events that the house should have until the end of summer.
The idea is to have Saturdays with music and, on Sundays, welcome chefs who perform recipes from their homes. Matheus Zanchini, from Borgo, inaugurated the program last weekend — names such as former MasterChef Elisa Fernandes, at the helm of Clos, and Janaina Torres Rueda, from Casa do Porco, should also appear there.
In addition to Parador., the same partners will open, after next year’s Carnival, three spaces on the ground floor of the Renata building: a restaurant, a bar and a cafe. The houses will be accessed through a reception with an entrance on Rua Major Sertório.
Called Renata, a brasserie will be the largest of the ventures, with one hundred seats. Lágrima, with 26 seats, is inspired by music bars in Tokyo and will be dedicated to cocktails. Called Nata, the cafe should have around 40 seats.
The complex will be managed by Pops, a company from the same group that carried out the retrofit of the Renata building, carried out in partnership with the Metro Arquitetos office. Responsible for renovating the building where the Cora restaurant is located, also in the center, the Planta group will carry out other similar projects in the region—one such example is the Margarida building, also on Rua Major Sertório.
