The excursion of a group of friends from Ilia turned into a tragedyin the area of Feneos near Lake Doxa.
A 57-year-old man from Gastouni was found dead in the early hours of Saturday in his car, probably from fumes from a fireplace that he had lit to warm himself.
According to information, the group of friends from Amaliada and Gastouni used to make excursions on two and four wheels in beautiful areas of the Peloponnese and beyond, in nature. This is how they organized this trip to Lake Doxa where last Friday night they camped near the lake in the area of Feneos.
The 57-year-old hotel worker father of one son fell asleep in his jeep. But because of the cold chose to briefly light a gas fireplace. He apparently fell asleep and the fumes restricted the oxygen in the jeep’s passenger cabin.
His friends found him in the early hours of Saturday without his consciousness, the gas had been turned off and they immediately informed EKAV and the Police.
The 57-year-old was taken to the Gouras Health Center where he was pronounced dead.
The news of his death fell like a thunderbolt in Gastouni. His family was left in mourning, while his friends and those who knew him could not believe what had happened.
The police authorities in Corinthia have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the 57-year-old’s death and then to hold his funeral.
